Translate string from ASCII to EBCDIC
()
ascii2ebcdic() is an Apache-specific function which is available only on EBCDIC based operating systems (OS/390, BS2000). It translates the ASCII encoded string ascii_str to its equivalent EBCDIC representation (binary safe), and returns the result.

I needed to translate EBCDIC strings from an AS400, but our Apache build was on a plain x86, so I had to make some functions myself. These functions will get a string as input and produce a string as output. I think they are pretty customizable for your own needs.
